VA Entitlement & Loan Limits

There is no single universal “VA maximum loan amount.” Entitlement status and lender qualification both matter.

Full entitlement

VA does not impose a county loan limit on a borrower with full entitlement simply because the loan exceeds the conforming limit. The lender still determines the maximum affordable loan based on underwriting and collateral.

Remaining entitlement

When entitlement is already tied up on another VA loan or has not been fully restored, the county conforming loan limit can become part of the guaranty/down-payment calculation.

VA itself has no minimum credit score

VA's entitlement/limits page expressly states VA does not require a minimum credit score, while lenders may set one.

Lifetime benefit: VA home-loan guaranty can be used more than once when entitlement rules are satisfied.

Official VA baseline

VA sets the guaranty program rules, while private lenders underwrite and may impose overlays that are stricter than VA's baseline.
